Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of curiosity, persistence, and a genuine passion for connecting with people. My journey began at the University at Buffalo School of Management, The State University of New York, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management. From there, I have focused on understanding businesses at a strategic level, learning how to align a company’s vision with its audience, and developing solutions that drive meaningful results. I approach every opportunity with energy, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to building authentic relationships, all of which have allowed me to grow professionally while making a positive impact on the organizations and communities I serve.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The things that she was telling me that she loved to do, she wasn't doing for herself. It's really easy to build for someone else, and you really need to take a look at what you want. If you aren't being specific about what you need, and specific about what you want to do, you're not going to get anywhere, because then no one's going to remember you. That's the same thing with any startup, with any company. If you're not targeting who you want to go after, you're not getting anywhere, because you can't sell to everybody. If you're at a starting point of looking for work and looking to get out there, or wanting to get into this field, you need to take a good hard look at what you can and want to do, and then grow from there, because otherwise, you're just going to be a generalist that nobody wants to help. It's a lot harder to show up as your authentic self, but when I started showing up as my authentic self about a year ago, two years ago, it changed the way that people approached me. It changed the way I approached people. It made me want to connect on a real level with people.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I love learning. I think that that is the best way to approach things. I try to instill in my children the fact that you never stop learning. One of the biggest things that I've found in the San Diego startup community, in the tech space, has really been just people want to give back, and people work together, and I think that that is just a way that I live my life. It's not something I seek out, it's why I don't talk about the fact that I got an award, it's why I don't run around screaming about everything that I've ever done or always am doing. My intention was never recognition. It's always about doing things that I feel are supporting my goals and aligning with the growth that I want to see in myself, and helping others. It is a lot harder to show up as your authentic self, but when I started showing up as my authentic self about a year ago, two years ago, it changed the way that people approached me. It changed the way I approached people. It made me want to connect on a real level with people. I want to be able to help other people feel that support too, because I have been lucky and I have been able to create a really great support system for myself.
