Her Story

About Kim

I've been in healthcare for about 8 years now, and I've been in my current role as a therapist liaison for 5 years. I graduated with my bachelor's in psychology from Loyola, and I really wanted to use that degree. Initially when I graduated, I was just kind of looking for a job, and I worked in the hotel industry because tourism in New Orleans is easy to get into, which I enjoyed, but it wasn't really for me. I wanted to work more in healthcare, so eventually I just kind of fell into ABA therapy. I really enjoyed working with the kids and seeing all the different personalities. I also enjoyed seeing where I can help out other therapists having experience in the field. My typical day involves administrative work in the morning, helping with operations, fixing schedules, and seeing what type of supplies we need for the kids or for the staff. Then the afternoon is more directly working with the kids, so that's strictly ABA therapy, following the protocols for the kids and seeing how I can motivate them to work towards their goals. My main area of expertise is dealing with people and seeing what I can do to help others.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be open to new opportunities and believe that you have the potential to take on new opportunities. For the longest time, I was kind of sheltered growing up, so I always felt like, okay, I can't do that, I can't do that, I'm afraid to do that. And that stops you from taking new opportunities, so that's important. Because if other people can do it, so can you, you know?
