Her Story

About Kimberly

Kimberly Miller is an administrative associate at the UNCSA School of the Arts in the School of Drama. With approximately 20 years of experience in theater as an actor and stagehand, she founded a nonprofit four years ago that uses drama therapy to help individuals process life challenges through 12 to 20 minute skits based on real situations. Participants volunteer to act, discuss issues raised, and receive three practical tools for implementation, with referrals to therapists if needed. Her approach integrates her credentials as a licensed minister through the Rowan Association in North Carolina, a bachelor's degree in psychology from North Carolina A&T, an associate's degree in pre-psychology from Gifford Tent Community College, and child care credentialing. Miller's main focus is identifying and addressing spiritual trauma to promote healing from the inside out, while also working to reduce the stigma around therapy in minority communities. She writes the skits, produces the shows, handles auditions and locations, and networks extensively. She attributes her success to her spiritual relationship with God and the support of her family, and she advises others to never stop striving for the next step even after mastering the current one. She is also fluent in Spanish.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kimberly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would have to give God all the credit, and along with my family. My family's been a huge motivator for me, but I would first give everything to my spiritual relationship with God.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop striving. Like, even when you feel like you may have arrived. That there's always that next place, that next step. So once I come into a place, I get a view of how to master that place, but then, after that, it's time to have a vision of what's next.
