Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the journey that led me here, where my passions and purpose intersect. While I initially pursued business, a suggestion from my young daughter—and a long-ignored nudge from earlier experiences—revealed my true calling as an educator and mentor. Today, my work aligns with my ministry, allowing me to guide youth and teens while serving as a ministry leader. I am grateful to share this path with my husband of 18 years, a Rice University police officer, as we support each other in both life and work.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received was that I would work in education and ministry, making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their parents. That guidance has stayed with me and continues to shape my approach, reminding me that purpose and impact are at the heart of everything I do.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is that you can absolutely build a career that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others while achieving professional success. Believe in your abilities, embrace your purpose, and know that impact and success can go hand in hand.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I face is balancing school, full-time work, my nonprofit, and ministry commitments, as I feel called to serve in all these areas. Beyond my personal challenges, I see a significant divide between parents and teachers that needs to be addressed. Bridging this gap and strengthening systems of accountability can help retain excellent teachers, support families, and create a healthier environment for students. Our teens face serious issues—suicidal thoughts, bullying, and substance concerns—and establishing open communication allows them to feel heard and supported. Making a meaningful impact in these areas is what I consider one of my greatest achievements.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value in my work and personal life is service—helping others and making a meaningful impact through my ministry and professional work. For me, it’s not about recognition, but about reaching teens, working mothers, or anyone in need of encouragement and support. Equally essential is family; being a mom to my children and a wife to my husband brings immense joy, and our home is full of love, laughter, and life’s everyday surprises. Serving others and nurturing my family are the values that guide everything I do.
