Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kimberly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being first and foremost brought up and mentored by really strong women early on in life. My parents exposed myself and my siblings to extracurricular activities that taught teamwork and discipline. I was influenced by women who were about social justice, giving back, and helping young people thrive. This helped me with confidence and not being afraid to try new things.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Simplification, keeping it simple. Don't overthink technology or advanced degrees. Companies will train you. Get a certification and make good money right out of college. Study industries that pay well.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you're not sure, figure out how to be sure by looking back at courses you liked and grades. Don't waste time overthinking. Technology is easier now. Don't overthink advanced degrees or Microsoft certifications. Companies will train recent grads. Study industries that pay well and go for it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is understanding which technology is sustainable versus trendy, like cybersecurity or AI, and navigating variables like politics. Opportunities are in app development and cybersecurity because every industry needs it, and it simplifies complex tasks on phones.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Always being true to myself. My faith. Family. Always putting family first. Having purpose.
