Her Story

About Kimberly

I have been in the hair industry for 25 years, and I've owned my salon, Inspirational Styles, for 19 years. Before becoming a salon owner, I worked in a hair salon for 6 years. My main area of expertise is as a medical non-surgical hair loss specialist. I work with clients who need to see me for hair loss from alopecia or cancer. During consultations, I figure out the style they want, measure their head, and show them what kind of units we can provide to give them whatever look they're looking for. I've always had a passion for making people look good. My most notable professional achievement has been getting my certification in medical hair loss and being able to help cancer patients and people with hair loss. I'm currently trying to venture into the medical field with medical coding, which is why I went back to school to get my certification. I'm really trying to set up something with the cancer centers where I can be a vendor or in their network, so cancer patients can come to me for the hair units I have available.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to watching my parents work hard when I was growing up to provide for me and my four siblings. They had a good work ethic, and that really shaped how I approach my own work. They were good role models for me, and I learned from their example of dedication and perseverance.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Learn as much as you can, put God first, and never give up. You need to always continue training and learning new things to keep your profession and keep the clientele up. You can't stop learning. I always attend shows yearly to add to my expertise and experience.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is the economy. With inflation going up and down, prices and gas prices fluctuating, it affects the business. On the opportunity side, you always need to continue training and learning new things to keep your profession and keep the clientele up. You have to keep learning and you can't stop. I always attend shows yearly to add to my expertise or experience.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Never giving up is most important to me. I set goals and I always try to achieve them, no matter what curves or challenges come my way. I take great care in what I do and stay committed to my objectives.
