Her Story
About Kimberly
I've been in the railroad industry for about eight and a half years since January 2018. Majority of my career has been on the operations side, starting in the field running terminals and rail yards, managing operations, planning, and tactical day-to-day execution. I worked for Union Pacific in Texas starting in San Antonio, moved to Omaha, then joined CSX where I ran one of their largest yards in Nashville before moving to Jacksonville for a role in sales and marketing on the agriculture and food team, handling customers like Archer Daniel Midlands and Purdue Farms. I have a bachelor's in management science from the University of Texas in San Antonio, graduated December 2017.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kimberly
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say drive. Because that's not something that you can teach, it's something that you have to have. The drive to keep learning more. Or the drive to keep having that perseverance when things are tough. It's your drive that gets you through a lot of the challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Going into every single day trying to learn something new, and asking as many questions as possible, because there's no such thing as a dumb question. I approached every situation as if I was brand new to the topic and try not to go into any meeting acting like I'm the subject matter expert, because there's always more that you can learn from a situation.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say showcase your talents through your performance. Because you're performing. Speak louder than words.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges that I've faced in every single job is because it's a male-dominated industry, you already have to prove and earn other people's trust twice as hard. Being a woman and being younger. Having to manage people and also gain their trust was one thing that I had to showcase very early on.
