Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kimberly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to the strong coworkers, mentors, and professional development opportunities that have shaped my career. I believe it is important to surround yourself with people who understand your profession and are willing to share their knowledge. Over the years, I have learned the value of building relationships with others in similar roles, recognizing each person’s strengths, and supporting one another when challenges arise. Success is not achieved alone; it grows through collaboration, mentorship, continued learning, and a shared commitment to helping everyone in the profession succeed.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to keep learning and not let frustration get in the way. In our roles, change is constant, and we are not always given every detail or answer upfront. Sometimes we have to research, ask questions, and work through challenges on our own. I have learned that patience, persistence, and a willingness to keep learning are essential. When something unexpected happens, the best approach is to stay calm, keep working through it, and trust that you will figure it out.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this field is to persevere and seize every opportunity to learn. Do as much research as you can, pursue training whenever possible, and participate in webinars and professional development opportunities, even when it feels like you have already done enough. I have worked with the same accounting software company for over 25 years, and I still attend their training sessions because there is always something new to learn or something I understand better the next time I hear it. In this profession, continued learning is one of the most valuable tools you can have. Never assume you have learned too much; there is always more knowledge that can help you grow, improve, and succeed.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is keeping up with rules and regulations that continue to change. It is important to stay informed, pay close attention to guidance from legal professionals, monitor IRS updates, and review official bulletins and professional resources. Often, the information we need is not widely shared through mainstream channels, so you have to be intentional about subscribing to the right updates and seeking out reliable sources. Staying current helps ensure that we are following the correct procedures and doing the work accurately and responsibly..

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are professionalism, kindness, openness, and balance. I believe in treating everyone with respect and making myself approachable to those who have questions or need support. I often tell others to please feel free to reach out, and I do my best to make time to help when I can. At the same time, I believe family is extremely important. Even when life and work are busy, it is important to make time for the people who matter most and to take that time when it is needed.
