Kina Sweet-Gilbert, EdD, MBA is an accomplished educator and leader in business, education, and social services, with over 15 years of experience teaching both online and in-person across a variety of subjects. Currently serving as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator at Louisiana State University at Eunice, she combines her expertise in curriculum development, academic advising, and team leadership to drive student success and program excellence. Known for her ability to inspire and motivate, Kina has created mentorship programs, enhanced health sciences curricula, and consistently surpassed student retention and enrollment goals, reflecting her commitment to fostering educational achievement. Kina earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University, as well as an MBA. She has held faculty and leadership roles at Purdue University Global, University of New Orleans, Kaplan University, and Unitech Training Academy, building a strong foundation in program management, instructional design, and team development. As an active member of Women in Energy and other professional organizations, she is dedicated to supporting colleagues and students through mentorship, guidance, and the sharing of best practices. What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being a lifelong learner. I have always loved my educational journey, and I am passionate about paying it forward by supporting and mentoring my students. Embracing continuous learning has not only shaped my professional growth but also allows me to inspire others to reach their full potential.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never box yourself in. Always know that you can reach up and do better. You just have to commit and move.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Look at your students, faculty, and staff as a family. Each part has a unique piece to play. Never look down on anyone and stay encouraged you move through. NEVER BE AFRAID!

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges now is getting students to understand that though many may make it without education there is still a place for education and nothing wrong with using it to meet your goals. The biggest opportunities is that with hard work and handling your personal business, having interest in what it takes to get that education you can maneuver getting what you need and earn your degrees.

The values that are most important in my work and personal life is compassion, work/life balance, kindness, etc.
