Her Story

About Kindra

Kindra Dunlap entered the financial services industry in 2019 after a diverse career path that began with door-to-door sales of Kirby vacuums in Indiana. She progressed through roles in the health field and security before finding her niche in insurance around 2018, later expanding into mortgage and real estate products. As a people leader for 15 years, she excels at creating structure and visibility in chaotic environments, as demonstrated in her role as membership director where she independently built processes, data analytics, and compliance standards during a period of organizational turmoil involving technology rollouts and member backlash. Dunlap values organization, genuine connections, teamwork, and the happiness, safety, and security of those around her. She attributes her success to her community, likening it to a boxing coach that helps navigate life's challenges, and advises young women, particularly as a Black woman, to show up authentically without making themselves smaller to fit any room.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kindra

01What do you attribute your success to?

Community. Life is like a boxing match and your community is a coach in the corner helping you dodge blows and get better. I had a phone call with my brother when I was getting rejection after rejection and he reminded me I had never failed at anything.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Find something that you love to do, and then find a way to get paid for it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

As a Black woman, be yourself. Show up authentically as you both personally and professionally. Don't make yourself smaller to fit in a room. Find a bigger room that accepts you for who you are.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Technology and AI. We're moving in the direction of AI which is scary because we don't know what AI can do or what the after-effects are going to be.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Organization, genuine connections and relationships, teamwork, and happiness, safety and security. I love creating organization where there's chaos and value the relationships with my team as a people leader for 15 years.
