About Kirstie

Kirstie Brieger is a dedicated public service professional with more than 13 years of experience in local government customer service for the City of Dallas. Currently serving as a Supervisor III within Dallas Communications and Customer Experience (formerly 311), she leads a team of customer service agents while helping oversee operations that connect residents with essential city services. Her expertise spans customer service, emergency and non-emergency dispatching, workforce scheduling, and community engagement, all centered on delivering responsive and effective support to the citizens of Dallas. Kirstie’s career is a testament to perseverance, growth, and commitment to excellence. She began her journey with the City of Dallas as a temporary agent and steadily advanced through multiple levels of responsibility, earning permanent status, becoming a Senior Customer Service Agent, and ultimately rising to a supervisory leadership role. Along the way, she completed two interim council assistant assignments in separate council districts, broadening her understanding of municipal operations and strengthening her ability to serve both residents and city leadership. Today, she supervises call center staff, coordinates coverage for a workforce of more than 120 employees, and helps manage critical communications involving public safety, utilities, sanitation, code compliance, and other essential city services. Driven by a passion for service and continuous learning, Kirstie is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Abilene Christian University and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She believes that effective leadership begins with emotional intelligence, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping others. In addition to her public service career, she is also an entrepreneur and owner of Kakes by the Pound, a small business specializing in pound cakes and baked goods. Whether serving her community, mentoring employees, or building her business, Kirstie is committed to making a positive impact through leadership, dedication, and service.

Ten minutes with Kirstie

01What do you attribute your success to?

The greatest contributor to my success has been a commitment to growth, perseverance, and purpose. I've learned that success isn't defined by titles or accomplishments alone—it's built through consistency, resilience, and the willingness to keep showing up, even when life is demanding. Balancing a full-time leadership role, motherhood, and earning my bachelor's degree has required discipline, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief that every challenge is preparing me for something greater.

My Christian faith has also been the foundation of my journey. It reminds me to lead with integrity, humility, compassion, and grace while remaining accountable to the people I serve. Whether I'm supporting my team, raising my sons, or pursuing personal and professional goals, I strive to leave people better than I found them.

I've also discovered that success is rarely achieved alone. It is strengthened by mentors who invest in you, people who believe in your potential, and the courage to continue learning. Every setback has become an opportunity to grow, every obstacle has strengthened my resilience, and every achievement has reinforced the importance of serving others with excellence.

Ultimately, my success has been shaped by a commitment to never stop becoming a better leader, mother, and woman than I was yesterday. I believe that when purpose is greater than fear and service is greater than self, success becomes a natural byproduct of living with intention.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Time, chance, and opportunity happen for us all. Just keep in mind that your timeline does not look like everybody else's. This advice has really helped me understand that everyone's career journey is different, and I shouldn't compare my progress to others. It's reminded me to be patient with my own path and trust that things will unfold in their own time.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to never underestimate the value of your character. Technical skills can be taught, but integrity, resilience, professionalism, and a willingness to learn will set you apart throughout your career. Don't be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, and embrace opportunities that challenge you. Growth often happens outside of your comfort zone.

Remember that your voice matters. Speak with confidence, advocate for yourself respectfully, and never allow self-doubt to convince you that you don't belong at the table. Build relationships with mentors, support other women along the way, and always strive to leave every workplace better than you found it. Success is not about competing against others—it's about becoming the best version of yourself while helping others succeed as well.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The City of Dallas is currently under a hiring freeze, and because my department is not among the exempt departments, we are unable to fill positions either internally or externally. I had been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to apply for a Workforce Manager position and waited several months for the posting to become available. Shortly after I submitted my application, the hiring freeze went into effect, eliminating the opportunity for advancement within my department. While that was certainly disappointing and frustrating, I have chosen not to let the setback discourage me. Instead, I view it as an opportunity to continue growing as a leader, strengthen my skills, and remain committed to performing at a high level until the next opportunity presents itself.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Consistency, commitment, honesty, accountability, emotional intelligence, patience, and understanding are the core values that guide both my work and personal life. I believe lasting relationships, impactful leadership, and meaningful service begin with showing up every day with empathy, integrity, respect, and a genuine commitment to others.
