About KJ
I've been in retail sales since 2012, starting back in my Radio Shack days. I've been in management since 2015, and my job is pretty much to make sure everybody else is doing their jobs - leading the team, handling daily operations, and store management. What I love most about this work isn't necessarily the sales part, but seeing people light up when they find what they need. Whether I'm helping someone put together cute outfits, find a new TV or computer, or pick out shoes, the excitement people have on their faces is like Christmas morning for adults. They get so excited and giddy, and I enjoy knowing I helped create that happiness. I won the Safety Champion Award in December because I was meeting needs before they were even asked - I'd be outside pushing carts, unloading trucks, shopping customer orders, literally everywhere, filling whatever need was needed before being told. I'm super optimistic and a perfectionist, even though it's impossible. I get stuck on the details sometimes, but at the end of the day, I'm gonna finish the job and it's gonna look good when I'm done with it, no matter what. I have to see it through to be fulfilled. I have ADHD, so I come off as a little weird at times, but I've been told I'm quite entertaining and people enjoy watching me because I'm so animated when I talk. They call me the Brianna Show.

Ten minutes with KJ
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my amazing optimism. I'm super optimistic, and I'm one of those people who's a perfectionist, even though it's impossible. I get stuck on the details sometimes, but at the end of the day, I'm gonna finish this job and it's gonna look good when I'm done with it, no matter what it is. I have to see it through in order to be fulfilled. That drive to complete things well and my positive outlook are what keep me going and help me succeed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was probably the typical one: if you do something that you love, you'll never work a day in your life. So find something that you love and you'll never have to work. I don't know, I just love lots of things, so it's kind of easy for me, I guess.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
My biggest challenge is that I'm a perfectionist, so I get stuck on the details, which makes time management probably my biggest challenge currently, if I'm gonna be completely honest with you. But I've actually gotten quite better at it. I create a bullet point task or checklist type thing, and I go down my bullet points like, alright, is everything how it's supposed to be? Yes. Does it look good? Yes. Is it the best? No, but we're gonna have to accept it and go on. I'm learning to accept the imperfect. The more I'm doing it, the more I'm getting comfortable with it.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Support is my number one value - team support, definitely. You definitely need to have a good team. If you do not have upper management support, you might as well just call it a day, because without that, it's just not fun. So definitely having support from your store, your team, your crewmates, whatever, is my number one. Obviously, compensation and money are important too. And I like people who keep an open mind, because I have ADHD, so I come off as a little weird at times, but at the same time, I've been told I'm quite entertaining and people enjoy watching me because I'm so animated when I talk. They call me the Brianna Show.
