Her Story

About Komal

I am a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst and BI Team Lead who has built deep expertise in data analytics, business intelligence, and platform strategy throughout my career. I focus on translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders. In my current role, I lead a cross-functional BI team through a significant platform migration, moving our entire reporting infrastructure from Tableau to Figma, while managing client deliverables across a diverse portfolio of enterprise accounts. I work closely with engineering, product, and external partners to ensure that our data solutions are not only technically sound, but genuinely useful to the people relying on them. What drives me is the intersection of rigorous analysis and practical impact. I believe in strong data leadership, meaning building systems and teams that outlast any single project, and that's the standard I hold myself and my team to. Before this role, I worked as a software engineer with a retail bank, where I worked with a lot of data and did analysis on that, and also coded on a particular platform. While working on a particular project where I was majorly working on data, I realized maybe I should explore the data analyst world, and that's where I did my master's in big data analytics. The insights we provide help merchants save millions of dollars, and I'm quite happy with whatever we are doing. Outside of work, I stay energized through dance, hiking, and traveling, and each one keeps me curious and grounded. I recently welcomed my baby, and navigating new motherhood alongside a demanding leadership role has reinforced my belief in showing up fully, both at home and at work.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, get comfortable being the person who asks hard questions in the room. In analytics, the most valuable skill isn't just knowing how to pull data, it's knowing which question to ask in the first place. Find allies across the organization, not just within the immediate team, but also across different people in the industries. Some of my most important professional relationships have been with different people, or I would say women in data. I make sure that I go to certain Connect events, networking events, with people who see the value of what good data work can do. The technical space can sometimes make you feel like you have to prove yourself, or prove your seat at the table repeatedly. What's helped me is letting my work speak, staying deeply knowledgeable, and building genuine relationships across functions. I have also learned to advocate clearly and directly for myself, for my team, and for the right solutions, even when that requires an uncomfortable conversation.
