Her Story
About Konica
I work in medical billing and coding as an Associate Manager, where I manage a team of 30 claims examiners across multiple lines of business. My journey in this field started 8 years ago when I joined as a claims examiner, then progressed to SME, and 4 years ago I was promoted to Associate Manager. My typical day involves checking emails, monitoring team attendance through our systems, pulling production reports to track how many claims have been completed, and preparing for client calls where we discuss what was completed the day before, what issues we're facing, and what the client needs us to prioritize. The rest of my day is focused on production and making sure we're fulfilling client priorities. One of my proudest moments was 4 years ago when I submitted my resignation to switch companies, but my employer held multiple meetings over a week to retain me. They fast-tracked my promotion to Associate Manager, bypassing the usual posting and interview process, and exceeded the offer I had received elsewhere. That same year, I received a top performer award. I've also earned over 15 certificates of excellence for various trainings and hands-on learning. As a single mother of two daughters, I value the flexibility this role provides, which allows me to manage my responsibilities both at work and at home. I'm now looking to grow into senior management roles within healthcare finance and management.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Healthcare is completely vast with loads and loads of opportunities, and I don't think it's going to die down anywhere. Even though AI is popping up like anything, you can have loads and loads of things to learn within AI. Even in COVID, when everybody was out, we had loads and loads of business and opportunities, and overtime and all that offered to us. In my job, there is a lot of flexibility at present, and being a single mother, I am able to manage loads of stuff. There is a claims examiner position that opens up for entry level, and I have myself offered a lot of women the interviews, and they are working in this company with me. A lot of women who have started just like entry level, I have finished their interviews, and I've taken their interviews on my own, and they cross it and they get into this field. It's easy to get, but it's hard to stay in this field. You have to learn new techniques and knowledge, a lot of knowledge is there, so definitely I would say that it's easier to get here, but definitely you need to work smartly to stay here.
