Her Story

About Kora

I started in 2021 managing a local business after working as a pastry chef, in a pharmacy, and managing at Carter's. In 2023 I joined Spot On as a menu builder, took initiative with Profit Assist despite no finance background, restructured processes to break down silos, and advanced through Platform Solutions to my current role managing integrations and reserve departments. Despite challenges like poor high school performance due to home instability and becoming a young mother of five, I earned business and finance degrees online and am pursuing a doctorate.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kora

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've definitely not had an easy life. I watched my father struggle, I watched my mother struggle to be a single mom. I had 4 children, very, very young, back to back. Having those kids, and realizing life's not always easy. I realized I needed to work extremely hard, not only to set a good example for them. But to try to kind of play catch-up and ensure that they have everything that they want and need. So I work all the time. As hard as I can.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You can't train hard work. So if you work hard, you've got it. There's a letter that my grandmother wrote me... that says... there's X minutes in a day. If you had a bank account that started every day with the same amount, you'd want to spend every dollar of it... Time is the same way. And you need to spend it wisely... As long as you do 1% better every day, you will do amazing by the end of the year.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say stay organized. If you get knocked down, know tomorrow's a new day. ... take every morning as an opportunity to show that you know what you're doing, that you can be the best, that you can make changes. ... One year ago, I moved up in this company 3 times in one year. ... It really helps to just... you gotta think that you're the best at what you do, and it'll come.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

It's hard work. ... it doesn't end. It's very consistent. You know, if a client needs something late or early. You have to be there, and you have to always be troubleshooting... those can kind of weigh on your shoulders a little bit... So you get a lot of confidence in yourself and your abilities. ... being able to look at yourself, realize you're making a big impact... Speak up about things... You're making an impact, not only to customers, but to a very large company, and that's rewarding.
