Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kourtney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to finding my voice, discovering my passion, and consistently working hard toward my goals. I love what I do, and pursuing my master’s degree in psychology has strengthened my desire to focus on mental health support for first responders, which has become my biggest motivation.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Remember why you do this job and what your goals are. Always remember to do the right thing even if it may be difficult.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering law enforcement is to believe in themselves and remain confident in a male-dominated field. Do not let gender stereotypes or those who underestimate women discourage you from pursuing your goals. Women bring valuable strengths and perspectives to law enforcement, and their contributions are essential to the profession.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Public view of the field as a whole is difficult. It is difficult to continue doing a job that you are sometimes hated for. You are working with people who on some occasions are having the worst day of their life and sometimes you are hated for just being there even when you are trying to help. Just keep working hard and showing there are good people in this field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, compassion, humility are important no matter what I’m doing but to continue to show this in this career is very important.
