Her Story

About Krista

I've been a certified personal trainer since 2018 and just started my first year as a physical education teacher at a local private school in the area where my children attend. I teach PE three days a week and do personal training two days a week out of my home. I've always been an athlete, and while I was originally an exercise physiology major at Ohio University, I ended up graduating with a bachelor's degree in communication in 2008. After college, I didn't really love what I was doing in the workforce, so when I had my children, I took a break from the professional realm and leaned into being a mom. Once they got a little bit older, I figured I would lean into what I always liked to do, so I got my personal training certificate through ACE. I worked at some local mom-and-pop studios, then did a corporate studio at Orange Theory for about two and a half years as a coach, and then I started doing things on my own. I also completed a health coaching certificate through MindBodyGreen two years ago. I'm passionate about working with women mostly, helping them realize how strong they are mentally and physically. I understand how hard it is as a female to struggle with confidence, and if I can help somebody else in that area become more confident, then that's why I decided to do it. The relationships I've built with my clients and helping them become more confident in who they are and believing in themselves is what it's all about for me.

Ten minutes with Krista

01What do you attribute your success to?

My kids, for sure, my children - they're my number one, they're my why. I want to do more for them. I want to give them more than I did growing up and that I had, so I try to do more for them all the time. They're what drives me and keeps me going.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My dad always would say, only the strong survive. That just kind of always sits with me in the back of my mind all the time, and now I tell my kids the same thing. You just gotta push through and just keep on going.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you're gonna try to do it solo, like growing your own business, I would say it's definitely hard, and just to keep on going, even when you don't think you can. You're gonna run into challenges, and you can't second-guess yourself. You're always gonna have doubts and stuff, but just stay true to you and keep going. The hardest challenge I had to overcome was lack of confidence, and I'm still struggling with that as an adult. But as I get older, I'm definitely getting a lot better with it. Just be confident in making sure you're doing everything you need to be doing, being authentic and true to yourself, and putting who you are out there and just being comfortable with that.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my professional environment, I would say making sure that everybody I engage with feels that I'm actually listening and paying attention to them, and connecting with them on a certain level, because I think people, especially now, we lack that in our society. Just making sure that they feel heard and understood, or that you really listen to them when someone's talking. I do that with my children too, making sure that they understand and they know that I'm here, I support them, I'm their number one cheerleader, and I try to do that with my clients too. I think that's really important, just to make people feel, because I feel like everybody remembers how someone makes them feel. They don't forget that.
