Kristal Black is an Accounting and Revenue Cycle Management professional with over 25 years of experience in accounting, primarily within the healthcare industry, as well as experience in the automotive sector. She holds an Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Accounting from National College of Business and Technology, where she graduated with honors. Throughout her career, she has built a strong reputation as a detail-oriented, numbers-driven professional with deep expertise in billing, eligibility auditing, and financial operations. She has worked in both hospital and clinical environments, where she developed not only technical accounting skills but also a strong appreciation for patient interaction and service.

Early in her career, Kristal recognized her long-term goal of becoming a business owner, which led her to formally study accounting to gain a strong understanding of financial systems, bookkeeping, and business operations. Her professional background includes extensive experience in healthcare billing and revenue cycle management, where she has consistently demonstrated accuracy, efficiency, and reliability. She is known for her ability to manage complex accounts, support operational workflows, and contribute meaningfully to organizational financial health.

Kristal is now in the process of launching her own business, Fluffin’ with Fancy, a laundromat and café concept with a convenient laundry pickup service. Inspired by her time working closely with patients who often shared challenges with everyday tasks like laundry, she developed a service model that offers pickup and delivery for up to five loads at a flat rate, combined with a welcoming space where customers can enjoy food and snacks while they wait. She is the sole owner of the business and is actively preparing for launch within the next eight months, with the LLC and tax ID already established. Her entrepreneurial journey is also deeply personal, as she is building this business to create a lasting legacy for her son, who has earned a scholarship to Lincoln Tech for mechanical and diesel engineering, with hopes of encouraging him to build his own future endeavors as well.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work and motivation. I've always stayed focused on my goals and kept pushing forward. I'm self-motivated and persistent I don't give up. Even now, as I'm building my business from the ground up, I keep that same drive and determination that has carried me through my 25-year career in accounting. My father, God rest his soul, was a huge influence on me and helped shape my work ethic and passion. I was raised pretty much by my dad and my husband, and they both taught me the value of persistence and believing in yourself.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Kristal identified her father as a key mentor and influence in her life, helping shape her work ethic and passion for her career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up. There is no age in dreaming - dreams can come true. You have to stay persistent and believe in yourself, especially when you're pursuing long-term goals or starting a business. I want to be influential to other women so they can ask me, hey, how did you do this? Where did you get started? What made you think of that? I love to uplift women because we're torn down enough. A lot of women have self-confidence issues and self-love issues, and they want to tear us down, but I want to lift you up. I'm still growing and learning every day, and I want to give that to another woman.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A major challenge I am currently facing is securing the right property and adequate funding to successfully launch my business, Fluffin’ with Fancy. As I move through the early stages of entrepreneurship, these foundational steps require careful planning, persistence, and the right partnerships to bring my vision to life. However, I also recognize a strong opportunity in creating a unique, service-based business that addresses a real community need by offering convenient, accessible laundry services combined with a welcoming café experience for individuals and families who may not otherwise have easy access to these resources.
With over 25 years of experience in accounting, primarily in the healthcare sector, I am now channeling my professional background, discipline, and financial expertise into building something of my own. This transition into entrepreneurship is both intentional and purpose-driven, inspired by my firsthand experiences working with individuals who faced everyday challenges such as access to laundry services. I am fully focused on bringing Fluffin’ with Fancy to life by securing property, finalizing funding, and preparing for launch in the coming months. Driven by hard work, resilience, and a desire to create a lasting legacy for my family, I am committed to building a business that not only serves the community but also inspires others especially women to stay focused on their goals and believe in their vision.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value hard work, helping others, and family above all. I absolutely love helping people - it's what drives me. When I was at the hospital, I loved the patients and they loved me. It was just warming and comforting. I'm very passionate about giving and lifting other women up. I want to uplift women because we're torn down enough, and I want another woman to know she can do it too. In my personal life, being around my grandbabies and my godson is so important to me. I have my grandson who's almost grown, and then I have two godsons - I have the little one just about 5 days a week, he's always with me. Family time, being outside, swimming, and walking are what I enjoy when I have time.
