Her Story

About Kristen

Kristen Clarke serves as a health policy researcher in Washington, D.C., where she has spent the past two years focusing on population-level health approaches after a decade practicing as a physician. Her medical training took place in the Caribbean, which honed her critical thinking skills, and she later earned a master's degree in health policy from a leading institution in the nation's capital. Clarke's work integrates her background in mental health with broader public health policy research, including tracking legislation, conducting evidence reviews, and exploring AI governance to ensure safe and equitable access to care. She attributes her success to a steadfast faith and the support of her family, values patience as a guiding principle, and advises young women entering the field to never dim their light and to push past imposter syndrome by claiming their space when opportunities arise.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kristen

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my faith which is steadfast and keeps me grounded, along with the support system from my family who I want to make proud.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never dim your light. When opportunities are presented, push past imposter syndrome because if you are in the room you deserve to be there and should take up space.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Patience is very necessary as a virtue, allowing things to unfold as they will rather than expecting everything at once.
