Her Story
About Kristen
I'm the oldest of five girls, originally from upstate New York. I started my career working at a daycare while in college, thinking it would suit me, but it turned out to be the most stressful job I'd ever had. A temp agency had a position available on a warehouse floor, and even though they weren't sure it was right for me since it was completely changing tunes, I went for it. I ended up working on site for a company called Momentum Performance Materials, and the 3PL was SEVA Logistics, one of the world's largest freight forwarders. I sat in front of a panel of men who looked quite disappointed at first that I was the candidate, but I told them I just needed a chance. They gave me that chance, and here I am 14 years later. I started on the warehouse floor doing the dirty stuff people don't know about - steel toe, fire retardant blues, driving forklifts, loading trucks, scaling out tank wagons, working at guard shacks. I've done everything from operations to managing a freight forwarder, and now I'm in sales as a Business Development Manager, though I'm heavy in operations because that's where I started. I just accepted a promotion into Global Accounts. My title is in sales, but most of my business is organic - it's the people I know and word of mouth that come to me because I've built up my network so much through attending networking events every single month.
