Her Story

About Kristen

Kristen Kofoed is a therapist coach based in Parker, Colorado. She became a licensed therapist in 2002 after earning her master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver in 2000. Her undergraduate studies were completed at the University of San Francisco from 1994 to 1995 on a volleyball scholarship. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a certified divorce coach, and certified in solution-focused therapy. In addition to her private practice, which she began during COVID and focuses on divorces, couples, and empowering women in their 50s through life transitions, Kristen serves as an administrator on call for Donor Alliance. In this role, she works with the family services team, coaching staff on organ donation conversations and supporting grieving families, a field in which she has worked for 25 years and achieved one of the highest authorization rates in the country. She is a member of Psychology Today. Kristen attributes her success to her ability to connect with people from all backgrounds and be fully present with them. She values family, compassion, empathy, lifting others up, and giving altruistically. Her career shift to private practice was driven by a desire to support her daughter as a single parent and to help women avoid feeling alone during divorce, drawing from her own experiences.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kristen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my ability to connect with everybody. I have a great ability to connect with everyone from wherever they're coming from. Yes, and I think that that ability to be present, too, with every person, and also, I'm a very all-inclusive person with everyone I know. I've had multiple families live with me. I open up my world to anyone who needs a little help.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't let fear stop you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Learn how to depend on yourself. And have others join you. Don't ever depend on anyone else. And another person to give you the life that you want.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Especially when talking about divorce, when women are going through divorce, they're also often financially challenged and face going forward, so it's difficult to get and to maintain the help that's available to them. Just because they don't know what the future holds, and so they fear spending money, they fear they sometimes don't have jobs, they don't. The spouse is in control of their finances, so they're afraid to spend, or they don't have the means to get the help that they need. And also just our country is just suffering financially right now, so I think there's a lot of people are feeling that, and they aren't just financially able or capable of getting the help that they need, and so they continue to suffer.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family, compassion. Empathy for others. Lifting each other up. Giving altruistically without expecting a return or without needing one.
