Her Story

About Kristen

I decided to pursue higher education a long time ago because I've always been adamant that no matter what life brings you, no one can ever take your education away from you. I worked hard to get a bachelor's degree, my MBA, my master's degree, and my doctorate degree. I often tell students that if I really mind my past and think about my upbringing, I spent a lot of free time as a child playing school with my sister, and I say, in some regard, I'm still playing school - I realize how much I enjoy it. I'm part of the College of Business and Management at Lynn University, where I feel like I have most of my support. Before I was in faculty, I led Lynn University's athletic department as the athletic director for 13 years, and I enjoyed that incredibly. I feel that sports and athletics is an incredible laboratory for leadership development and the experience of what it means to perform, be results-focused, and work with others to achieve something bigger than what you could on your own. It's been a great opportunity to build analogy or metaphor from in my teaching. When I moved over to faculty, it was sort of a reset - now I teach leading and managing others, and don't necessarily have a formal role to do so. In recent years, I've developed myself further and earned certification to be an ACC-level coach, a professional coach certified by the ICF (International Coaching Federation). I've been able to take my focus on helping develop others and create a coaching business called KQ Leadership Coaching, where I help professionals who are either experiencing a career pivot or exploring their best career matches. I also do professional leadership development coaching for folks who are stepping into leadership roles and taking on new challenges, and support them and guide them through that transition and those additional experiences.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I've always been adamant that no matter what life brings you, no one can ever take your education away from you. That's why I worked hard to get my bachelor's degree, my MBA, my master's degree, and my doctorate degree. I'm really committed to lifelong learning and enjoy supporting others in their personal and professional development. I feel that sports and athletics is an incredible laboratory for leadership development and the experience of what it means to perform, be results-focused, and work with others to achieve something bigger than what you could on your own. When I think about my team, I really call my family - my husband and my kids - my team.
