Her Story
About Kristen
I've been a finance professional for over 25 years, and the further I went into my career, the more I saw that finance is really the connector of all parts of a company. It was my curiosity about getting to know people across all disciplines within the business and helping to make better decisions to run a better company that has driven my work. I started my career as a costing analyst in a shingle factory, where I determined that I really had a love for manufacturing. Looking down the road in my career, I moved into sourcing for the footwear industry with Nike and Adidas, and got to be side-by-side with our factories in Asia. There's a link throughout my career, even though it might seem disconnected. As of January this year, I left the corporate world after over 20 years in the sporting goods industry and started my own business as a fractional CFO and consultant. It's been super wonderful to be working with small businesses that don't have the capability to hire a full-time CFO, using the experience I've had over the past 25 years to really help them come in and quickly diagnose problems and put solutions in place to help them run a better business. I love the opportunity to come in and make a difference in small businesses that otherwise wouldn't have the tools to unlock their next level of planning and profitability.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kristen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say, in general, it's taking a leap of faith and a risk. I've lived all over the world, and I've just been open to different experiences, and that's honestly changed my life and the trajectory of my career. I would say the biggest accomplishment is not being afraid to take a risk.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, don't be afraid to say yes, you know, don't be afraid to stretch yourself. Don't be afraid to do something that sounds scary, because I think it's in those moments that you have the biggest growth in your life and in your career.
