What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my passion for patient education and preventive dental care. In addition to my clinical work two days a week, I dedicate much of my time to teaching patients about the importance of dental health. I offer free educational courses—both in person and virtually—where I share information about a bacteria-reducing product that supports better oral hygiene. I also coordinate meetings, distribute product samples, and conduct follow-ups to ensure participants feel supported and informed.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from two incredible mentors who shaped my professional journey. My instructor, Karen Ridley, was not only a great professor but also someone I had the privilege of working with clinically—she taught me invaluable lessons that continue to guide my practice today. Another mentor, Wendy Sparks, was a hygienist I once worked alongside who became a dear friend. Now serving as the Assistant Dean and Director of the dental program, she remains a trusted source of support and a compassionate listener.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are growth, balance, and connection. In my professional role, I take great pride in providing continuing education courses that help others expand their knowledge and improve patient care. Outside of work, I find joy and balance through my love of gardening—which I expand each year—as well as spending time outdoors practicing yoga, walking, and hiking. I also enjoy exploring interior design in my free time. Most of all, I value the moments I share with my three active sons, ages 12, 9, and 5, cheering them on at their sports and practices.
