Her Story
About Kristen
I started out as a nursing student but struggled and switched to business school after my retail manager encouraged me. I worked in retail to put myself through college, gaining experience at various retailers including White House Black Market's Executive Management and Training Program, where I was one of only six hired out of thousands. This hands-on experience led me to fall in love with the corporate side of retail. After moving back to Michigan, I joined Wolverine Worldwide and now lead the Chaco product team, working with marketing, sales, and consumer insights to create products consumers want.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My mentor advised keeping work and personal life separate: focus 100% on work when at work and 100% on family when home. Also, fight for your team like they're your kids. This has helped me balance being a mom and a leader.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep trying and keep exploring. Network and don't be afraid of rejection. You'll get some no's but if you're passionate, you'll get the yes that falls into place.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The economy is tough as footwear isn't a priority like groceries or housing. We work closely with marketing to create fun, relatable stories and ensure our products help people have fun together outside.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Personally, as a mom to two girls, I want to show them you can be an amazing mom while also leading a team and pursuing your passions. At work, I strive to be a safe place for my team, emphasizing honesty, candid conversations, staying curious, and fighting for my team like they're my kids.
