Her Story
About Kristin
Kristin Webber serves as a professor teaching undergraduate and graduate literacy classes at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, a role she has held since 2012. With a total of 33 years in the field of education, she began her career with six years at Head Start, followed by 11 years teaching kindergarten, first, and sixth grades in elementary school, and one year at an alternative school for students with severe behavior problems. Webber earned her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Kent State University in 1993, her master's degree as a reading specialist in 2001, and her doctorate in elementary education and curriculum instruction with a focus on literacy from the University of Akron in 2012. She is a Certified Reading Specialist and recently became a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, which has deepened her expertise in structured literacy and supporting students with dyslexia. In addition to her teaching, Webber maintains the website theliteracyprof.org to provide resources and professional development for teachers navigating new structured literacy legislation in Pennsylvania. She is actively working toward establishing a structured literacy center at the university to offer tutoring support for children in the community, guided by her motto of ensuring every child can read.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be persistent and remember your why. There will be tough days so remember why you are doing what you are doing. Be flexible and willing to accept change. Collaborate with others and build a support network around yourself.
