Her Story

About Kristina

Kristina Bailey is a seasoned humanitarian and social impact leader with over 25 years of international field experience dedicated to refugee protection, community empowerment, and sustainable development. Her career has taken her across 11 countries — including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Jordan, Iraq, Ghana, and Costa Rica — where she has designed and managed refugee programs, led cross-cultural training initiatives, and built the capacity of both local communities and multinational organizations. Having served with distinguished institutions such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and Church World Service (CWS), Kristina has developed deep expertise in refugee processing and resettlement, risk management and compliance, fraud prevention, and the development of feedback and referral mechanisms that strengthen service delivery to vulnerable populations.

Following the conclusion of her long-standing UN engagement, Kristina has strategically pivoted toward community-based empowerment and platform-driven social impact. She currently serves as Social Impact Lead for Job Match Africa, an innovative pilot project launched in Ghana that bridges community development initiatives with donors through a dedicated digital platform. Simultaneously, she contributes her strategic insight as a Board Member of Give to Africa, an international NGO advancing community development partnerships across the African continent. Her work in these roles reflects her evolving vision — one that moves beyond traditional humanitarian response toward locally integrated, sustainable solutions that place communities at the center of their own progress.

A proud alumna of the School for International Training, where she earned her Master of International and Intercultural Management, and American University, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication, Kristina brings both academic grounding and hard-won field wisdom to every endeavor. She is a recognized member of the Worldwide Women's Association and Who's Who in America, a 2026 honoree of Influential Women Magazine, and an active volunteer with the Interfaith Immigrant Justice Coalition and CEMBRA, a statewide grassroots immigrant support organization in North Carolina. Driven by passion rather than circumstance, Kristina Bailey continues to be a compelling voice for the world's most vulnerable communities at a time when the humanitarian sector needs bold, experienced, and heart-led leadership more than ever.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kristina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to leading with heart and staying true to my passion. For me, meaningful work has never been about financial gain or seeking external validation — it is about purpose. When your work is deeply personal and driven by genuine commitment, that is what sustains you and ultimately makes the difference.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most valuable advice I have received is to remain steadfast in pursuing what truly drives me, rather than fixating on a particular title or allowing the opinions of others to dictate my path. Staying anchored in your own passion is what leads to a fulfilling and impactful career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering this field to go in with their eyes open — this is a demanding profession, particularly now, as the humanitarian sector is undergoing significant global transformation. But within that challenge lies real opportunity. This is a moment of reinvention, and those who are persistent and passionate have the chance to help shape what comes next. If this work is your calling, do not give up.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The humanitarian sector has experienced profound disruption over the past two years. Funding structures, organizational frameworks, and operational models are all being reconsidered and rebuilt from the ground up. The central challenge is restoring the capacity of communities and organizations to function effectively within this evolving landscape. At the same time, this period of restructuring opens the door to fresh thinking, innovative approaches, and new models of impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal life, I prioritize family and my own continued growth and development. Professionally, my deepest commitment is to the support and empowerment of vulnerable communities. This has been the foundation of my work with refugee and immigrant populations throughout my career, and it remains central to everything I do.
