Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kristina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's a personality trait. I've had those issues of trying to be a perfectionist and doing it all. It's that silent feminine or woman's energy where the expectation is to handle it all. On the outside you're making sure everything is done the best way possible while on the inside you're juggling everything. In this small industry people know your name and reputation matters. It's also how we handle when we fail - taking ownership and making it right for the customer.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you're not ready, it's okay to say no. It's okay to not take on additional work that's going to make your existing work diminish or you're not going to be as productive in. Say no. That was very hard for me to do.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Learn, learn, learn. Make sure you are aware of what's going on in the industry. Earn it and push. Never lose an opportunity to introduce yourself to somebody who can influence the industry. Don't be shy, shake that hand, make yourself known. Don't be afraid of giving an opinion or raising your hand. It's okay to speak your word or your mind.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Working with people and managing expectations. We make promises we're confident we can fulfill but we're not the ones doing the work, so we have to follow every step to make sure nothing gets dropped. Managing different personalities and learning to listen to understand more than to respond. Delivering what we promise across a large organization from setup through billing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty and integrity are very big. Make sure you do what you say you're going to do and people trust you. Being respectful and loving to each other, giving each other room to grow independently and together. Listening to understand rather than to judge. Finding balance between being a businesswoman and a mother.
