Her Story

About Kristina

When I was in high school, I took a psychology class that really interested me, and I've always been that friend who wanted to help others, even as a kid. That psychology class led me to start studying psychology in college, and the more I got through that program, the more my interest shifted to social work and how to better connect with people and have that deeper understanding of others, what they're going through and how they're feeling. I started my career doing outpatient behavioral health services around 2015, and I've been working as a school-based social worker for the past four years. In the school setting, I focus on providing social-emotional supports to students, identifying triggers, and helping them with emotional regulation. I'm passionate about advocating for equal access and ensuring that all children feel included and like they belong. As a lifelong learner, I've pursued multiple master's degrees, including forensic psychology, healthcare administration, and most recently, a Master's in Social Work that I just graduated with in October. Going through my MSW while working in a school was really eye-opening because I was able to take what I was learning and put it right into practice through my internship.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would probably say just finding something that brings you joy and remembering the why behind what you're doing and what brought you to that position or profession. It's so important to keep that why in mind because that's what keeps you grounded and motivated in your work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice I would have is to remember why you're here and that you are in control of your decisions and your actions. Don't let your thoughts and your opinions be bulldozed by others around you. It's so important to stand firm in what you believe and not let other people push you around or make you doubt yourself.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say integrity, loyalty, and trust, because without those, that's really what guides not only my profession of social work, needing to have that integrity and having that trust and loyalty to the profession as well as the people that you work with. But even outside of work and at home, those are really the building blocks for solid relationships and just the foundation for so many different aspects of life.
