Her Story
About Kristy
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and Technology, Information Technology during the first Bush administration. The job market was competitive with no market for my field, so I ended up in licensing by chance, starting at Ruby's Costume Company on the licensee end for about 7 years. I then moved to the licensor end in Manhattan before returning to Long Island. I worked with brands like DC Comics, Marvel, Jelly Belly, and Chrysler, then handled royalties at McGraw-Hill for authors and their families. I also briefly worked as an executive assistant in construction and cleaned up contracts for the New York Racing Association. My computer background helped me transition from manual processes to systems, and I built a career through determination and learning all aspects of licensing.

Ten minutes with Kristy
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from determination, tenacity, my computer science background that helped during system changes, mentorship from women like Felicia, and persistence to prove myself despite being a minority woman in the field.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe that you will eventually gain confidence because everything takes time. Don't give up, don't let anyone stop you or their remarks hold you back. Utilize available resources and mentorship. Be the best at whatever you're doing and have a drive to learn all aspects of the field, not just one niche.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, hard work, and family. Growing up as an Army brat integrated these values in me from an early age, helping in business and career.
