Her Story

About Kristyl

I began my career in the casino industry, where I gained 14 years of experience before transitioning to Rocket Mortgage. I initially joined the organization in the call center as a Scheduler, where I was responsible for coordinating and confirming mortgage closing appointments with clients. I later advanced to the Post-Close team, where I managed updates to finalized loan files, ensuring accuracy when adjustments to fees or figures were required after closing.

During this time, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Technical Management from DeVry University in 2016. Following graduation, I pursued opportunities to transition into a technical role within the company, applying to several positions and leveraging guidance from an internal recruiter who provided valuable coaching and resources. Through persistence and preparation, I successfully secured a role as a Business Analyst.

In addition to my analytical work, I served as a Training Instructor for two years, facilitating new hire orientations and delivering presentations to groups ranging from 20 to 80 participants on a weekly basis. This experience strengthened my communication, leadership, and public speaking skills.

While I have always had a strong interest in technology and computer systems, I discovered that my strengths align more with analyzing and supporting technical solutions rather than coding itself. I enjoy working collaboratively with engineers to enhance systems and resolve issues, focusing on the operational and functional aspects behind the scenes.

Beyond my corporate career, I am also an entrepreneur and the owner of KriStyle Designs, LLC, a creative business I founded in 2020. I design and produce a wide range of custom items, including apparel, event materials, and personalized products. What began as a creative outlet has evolved into a meaningful business that not only serves clients but also provides a positive and productive way to channel creativity and maintain personal well-being.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If a young lady was coming to me at Rocket, I would definitely tell her to first go through our shadowing program to make sure that's something that she really wants to do. I will definitely offer up my contact information and let her know you can shadow me virtually, you can shadow me in person, anytime you want. Any questions that you may have, you can definitely reach out to me. If it is something that you decide to move forward with and you start to go through the interview process, be your most genuine, authentic self. Answer the questions to the best of your ability, be true to yourself, and ask questions. I will let her know that don't be afraid to step out unsafe into the position, because we do train. So don't think that you'll just come over and you just won't have a clue. We train throughout. There's someone holding your hand the whole time to make sure that you're up to speed, and take advantage of our education programs, because a lot of them are paid at 100%, and that can help you further your education as well. Don't be afraid. Ask questions, and take advantage of any opportunity that is offered to you that can help you better yourself and to get to where you want to be.
