Her Interview

Ten minutes with Krystal

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There's just no other way to put it. My professional journey has been that of a spiritual journey. I got here following Christ!

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was the thing that you do naturally, effortlessly, and love to do, is usually your area where you are gifted and quite possibly where you should be working.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust what God has placed in your heart for you to do. Know that things will arise. It won't be a perfect walk, but we have to be able to pivot and keep going. It's okay to stumble. Keep pushing, keep going. Keep praying. Protect your passion and willingness to make a positive difference coming into this field.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is that we don't get to follow our residents once they are discharged. A lot of them after you build the rapport are looking for you to go along with them on their journey. Having to say goodbye can be the hardest part for us and them sometimes. On the other hand, this field allows for networking and expansion across many disciplines. Why? Because mental health is something we all have in common no matter the profession.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value my faith first. My relationship with God is the foundation of everything else. I value love, treating myself and others with respect, and never stopping the pursuit of education and growth. I value charity and serving others, because I believe we are blessed to be a blessing. Most importantly, I cherish family; not only the people we are related to by blood, but also the people we have bonded with who genuinely love, support, encourage, and stand beside us.
