Her Story

About Krystal

Krystal Leaphart is the Founder and Consultant of her consulting firm in Baltimore, Maryland. She launched the firm a few months ago to address gaps in operational support for reproductive justice and civic engagement work, with a focus on operational capacity building, event management, and civic participation for nonprofit organizations. Prior to this, Leaphart served as Senior Policy Associate for State Partnerships at the Guttmacher Institute and as Senior Policy Analyst at the National Birth Equity Collaborative, where she honed expertise in reproductive power, liberation, and issues across the reproductive spectrum. She also worked at the Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women, a membership-based nonprofit supporting Black women legislators in policy initiatives and collaboration, and at Impact, which focused on civic engagement and political involvement for young professionals of color. Leaphart attended Howard University and holds professional certificates in stakeholder engagement, operations, fundraising, and event management. She is a member of Black Feminist Future, Heights for America, PCOS Challenge, Girls Vote, NAACP, and Our Bodies Our Sales team. Leaphart attributes her success to community motivation and the flexibility to focus on health and family in her mid-30s following a major family transition. She values equity, authenticity, and abundance in her work and personal life.

Your connections and your resources will get you in the room, but your skills and your accomplishments are the things that will keep you in the room.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust your training and your perspective. Use your talents and skills to contribute as best as you can to your community. Make sure that you're well-educated and well knowledgeable about the things that you want to do and how you want to contribute.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Equity, authenticity, and abundance are my top values. Equity is really big to me, authenticity is real, and abundance.
