Kumba Seddu, PhD
Kumba Seddu, PhD, is a distinguished immunologist and science educator with nearly a decade of experience investigating how the immune system responds in health and disease. Her research focuses on regulatory T cells, critical for maintaining immune balance, and she has contributed to one of the world’s most comprehensive datasets on immune gene expression through the Immunological Genome Project. Kumba’s work supports global scientists in advancing immunology research and developing innovative therapies, bridging rigorous science with accessible resources for the broader research community.
Beyond her research, Kumba serves as an Editorial Board Member for the Africa CDC’s Journal of Public Health in Africa, where she promotes cross-continental collaboration, strengthens health systems, and supports emerging African researchers. She has also mentored students and early-career scientists through teaching and lab rotations at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and other institutions, inspiring the next generation of public health leaders. Her work emphasizes equity, capacity building, and the transformative potential of education and mentorship in science.
