Her Story
About Kylie
I started in this field by accident while in college needing a job at a campus childcare program serving family graduate students. I was a toddler teacher for 7 years there. After my undergraduate degree in art history, I earned a master's in early childhood education. I then moved into policy work with statewide agencies, quality rating systems, workforce registry, and Head Start as assistant director. About three and a half years ago, I became the first paid employee to start this nonprofit combining affordable housing and high-quality childcare, where we now have pay parity with the local school district and serve families holistically.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Value yourself and do not feel you have to be a martyr or work for less pay. Find your passion, be honest with yourself about setting boundaries, and create a full team that you can rely on. This is an excellent field with growing opportunities especially around universal childcare.
