Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kylie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, continuous learning, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities. I have grown professionally from an intern to a senior accountant, recently earning a promotion and developing a training program for new accountants following our firm's merger. My education has also played a significant role in my success. I earned both my Bachelor's degree and my Master's of Accountancy from Washburn University, and I am currently preparing for the CPA exam to continue advancing my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is that you can build a successful career in any field you choose through hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Success comes from consistently putting in the effort and remaining committed to your goals.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to pursue a career in accounting with confidence. Although it has traditionally been a male-dominated field, there are tremendous opportunities for women to succeed, lead, and make a meaningful impact. Believe in your abilities, continue learning, and never hesitate to advocate for yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities for me right now is stepping into my newly promoted role, where I have the chance to mentor others, contribute to their professional growth, and continue developing my own leadership skills. I look forward to growing alongside my team and making a positive impact within the firm.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Hard work, integrity, and supporting others are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I am especially passionate about encouraging and empowering women entering the accounting profession. I was fortunate to have an outstanding mentor, my former manager, Chelsie Carpenter, who taught me the importance of being kind while also standing my ground when necessary. Outside of work, I enjoy cross-stitching, experimenting with baking, and volunteering with Christian Challenge, where I have the opportunity to give back to my community.
