Her Story

About Kym

I've been in the promotional products industry for about 6 years now as a Regional Account Executive, working for a personal care line doing inside sales. My day-to-day involves working with different distributors and their accounts, growing their business, offering them our products and more importantly teaching them ways to sell our products. I also attend large trade shows to connect with distributors. Before this role, I worked in sales in the beauty industry, selling beauty products to cosmetologists. I also ran cosmetology schools as a director, which was kind of sales in a way because it was my responsibility to not only help bring the students in but to ensure they had all of the tools for success. I also ran all of the day-to-day operations. My most notable professional achievement is probably being a director of cosmetology schools, because I did not get a typical college degree required for the role but I worked very hard and was very determined therefore I had a lot of success in that role. I've grown myself in every role with hard work and determination.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kym

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work and determination. Everyday in all aspects of my life.

I would also say knowing the importance of work/life balance.

It makes me successful at work and at home.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is that sales is all about having conversations and that has really helped me be successful. I love a great conversation so why not make it about my products! I once read that you should captivate your audience and in sales I think that is very important.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her to not be afraid of a challenge, and not to be intimidated. This industry has a lot of long timers. Do not be intimidated by how much they may know instead except the challenge of gaining knowledge from them and learn to make it your own. Do not be afraid to ask questions.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I have one that I always go back to.

"Say what you mean and mean what you say."
