Reed volunteers with the Arkansas Food Bank for food sorts twice a year, cooks dinner at the Ronald McDonald House once a year, and collects gifts for the Arkansas Children's Hospital at Christmas.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kymberlie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to not giving up. It wasn't easy when I started in 2006. I worked for three females who told me I didn't want to be an advisor because it was too hard. I found another job but my friend helped me stay at Ameriprise. I moved from Tennessee to Little Rock, Arkansas in 2013 and became an advisor in 2014. My boss gave me the opportunity and training even when I doubted myself. I didn't give up despite the challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to not give up. Whatever it is that you're trying to reach, just don't give up on it and try different things because everything that you try in this industry might not work.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn from as many other people as you can. Sit with other advisors in meetings to see how they do things because it's never a bad thing to learn new things. Just keep learning every day because none of us know everything.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is that people focus too much on the cost versus the value. Not all financial advisors do the same thing. Some only do investment advice, but I do financial advice that comes along with your investments where goals matter first. Sometimes people have a hard time understanding that there's a cost for both sides when other advisors say it's just all one fee.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family, relationships, and health are the most important values to me in my work and personal life. With clients, I focus on building long-term relationships rather than just customers. I want to know all about them and their family so I can take care of them the best that I can.
