Her Story

About Kyra

I'm currently the Senior Director of Financial Advising and Homeownership, and I've been in this field for about 15 years. My background is in personal financial planning from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I graduated in 2008. I started my career as a financial representative in affordable housing and on the corporate side, and then I transitioned to the nonprofit sector where I've been able to merge the two and provide financial literacy and affordable housing education, teaching homebuyer education. I currently work for a nonprofit organization called Beyond Housing, where I'm more on the program management side now, but I'm also really a community connector. It's important that we're out making those connections and staying engaged to find out what our community needs, what resources are available to offer to them, and how we can best support each other. My primary role is program management, so I have a staff of about 7 that is more customer-facing, but I do a lot of the partner engagement and collaboration. I really focus on teaching people how to set that solid financial foundation and get prepared to purchase a home, helping others navigate through the homeownership process and finding additional funding that's available for them. I rarely work outside the low to moderate income sector. I've helped hundreds of families really build generational wealth, whether it is increasing their financial savings, building their credit, or purchasing a home, and that is my most notable achievement because a lot of people are impacted by it for generations to come.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kyra

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to faith and perseverance. Faith works, but you have to keep pushing and know that He will take care of you. You will be okay. It's about doing the right thing all the time.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is that there's nothing that you cannot do.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say keep growing. Keep growing. Every day is a day to learn something, and so we keep growing. My motto is to spread your wings and show the world who you are, but you must first start with yourself.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say the biggest challenges are the things that are outside of our control, such as the economy, the ability to have affordable housing, and the inventory of houses available to purchase. Those are some of the biggest challenges that I've seen, and again, they're out of our control.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are trust and honesty, building relationships, empowering others, and definitely my faith, which comes first. I believe in always educating and supporting others, because if you have the information, it's important to share it with others.
