Her Story

About Kyya

I have been working in the administrative field for over 30 years, and about 5 years ago I started my own business providing administrative and notary services. I support smaller businesses with their back-office work when they're not big enough to have a whole staff. I do anything from answering phones, emailing clients, setting up interviews, conducting skills tests, and building relationships with customers. I currently have two clients that I work for under contract, and I'm in my little office all by myself managing all of these responsibilities. One of my clients is the Own Our Own program for entrepreneurs, and that's where I get the most fulfillment. It's almost like a ministry - I get to lead them, mentor them, and give advice to individuals who want to start and grow and learn how to run a business. It takes me a little bit away from the administrative work, but I'm still helping people become who they want to be. That's where I get my most pleasure from. In addition to running my business, I also work full-time in the same administrative field.

Ten minutes with Kyya

01What do you attribute your success to?

Consistency, hard work, staying focused, and learning how to apply my God-given talents to needs in the marketplace have been key to my success in business and as an entrepreneur. Solving my customers' problems with the skills God has blessed me with has opened doors for me that I could only dream of before.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

To create a business based on solving customer’s problems. Clearly identifying a problem to solve has served me well and continues to serve me well. Surrounding myself with wise leaders has been a close second. I have been blessed with being around leaders, mentors, advisors who were willing to share their secrets of success with me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Invest in yourself first to understand your gifts and talents. Then explore possibilities where those gifts and talents can be fully utilized. Surround yourself with business minded and success minded leaders who can pour into you, encourage you and push you to succeed.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There are endless opportunities available. The challenge is finding a problem where the individual has the unique skill to solve that problem. Then it is a matter of building out the solution, getting it financed and then finding customers who need the solution that you are providing. When the pain is big enough, the price you charge can be greater as people want their pain to go away!

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Staying true to who you are, character, and keeping your word means everything. Do what you say you will do as it is easier to maintain a great reputation then to destroy your credibility and have to rebuild it.
