Her Story

About Lacey

I started in the stone industry in 2005 right at the bottom, doing anything from answering phones to helping clean up in the shop. When the market crashed in 2008, my boss suggested I get sales training while laid off, so I worked selling copy machines and learned tactics that I later applied to builders and kitchen and bath accounts. Since 2017, I have been an outside sales rep contracted by fabrication companies to push sales, implement operating systems, review install crews, and adjust pricing strategies. I have made it my mission to build strong relationships and learn the labor side of the business thoroughly.

Ten minutes with Lacey

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think probably just my stubbornness. There's been a lot of people along the way that have told me that I'm crazy for staying in this industry, and I just decided that I wasn't gonna listen.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received has always been to find the person who makes the money that you want to make and ask them everything you can.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best advice that I would give a woman entering this field is to not think about the fact that she's a woman. She doesn't have to prove that she's capable, she has nothing to prove to the world. Just gain as much knowledge as you can, work really, really hard, and don't care when people tell you they don't think that you can do it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the unstable market and finding a way to pivot in each of those individual challenges. You really just have to be incredibly flexible. The biggest opportunity is that when builders aren't building, remodels and rentals are up, and there are still a lot of good people out there willing to work if you're committed to finding the right people.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family is absolutely most important. It gives me the flexibility to be flexible with my kids. Fab shops operate like a small family, so family values are probably top of my list.
