Her Story
About Lacey
I started in Lincoln working with youth on probation using ankle monitors as a last resort to keep them in their homes. I saw services coming too late and wanted to work more proactively with younger kids and families. At Completely Kids I ran an after-school site and then moved into development after giving a tour to the board. I rebranded our main luncheon event to focus on community supporters and families instead of a big-name speaker, improving ROI from 50-60% to 87%. I lead by giving autonomy and support without micromanaging, and value a fully female C-suite that supports working moms.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Lacey
01What do you attribute your success to?
I was raised with a really good work ethic from my parents. I put my head down, put in extra hours, make sure work is done, look outside my department to help others, and follow the phrase 'do before they ask' by being proactive with donors and volunteers.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
An insurance agent told me 'do before they ask.' When thinking about experiences with donors or volunteers, anticipate what they will want next and provide it proactively before they reach out.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Early on be someone who says yes, is accountable, and goes the extra mile because it is noticed when looking for leadership. Also focus on work-life balance, make dedicated time for family, and know when things can wait until the next day to avoid burnout.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In the workplace, putting myself in the shoes of the kids and families whose stories I tell, using a strengths-based approach that highlights accomplishments rather than just barriers. Also work-life balance and being present with family.
