Her Story
About La Donna
I've been in my field for almost 40 years, with the last 2 years in my current position as an account manager at Goosehead. Along the way, I've been in medical insurance, then left to do content moderation for about 4 years, but I came back to insurance when I got married and bought a house. The house buying process and insurance and escrow was intriguing to me, and I wanted to learn more. In my learning more, I realized how many people didn't know about the ins and outs of insurance and escrow, so I wanted to help people. I started at USAA as an insurance advocate, stayed there for 2 years, and now I'm with Goosehead helping people secure their properties and belongings, understand how the money flows and the process works, and keeping their valuables protected. My key responsibilities include working with underwriters to get policies reinstated, policy management, payments, billing, and overall policy security. I'm a hands-on learner and hands-on worker, and I've put in the time. I have 20 years of customer service experience, being a member advocate, so honing in on insurance made me twice as good because not only am I service-minded, but now I have an opportunity to help.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with La Donna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to my work ethic and how I treat people. Sometimes it's not what you know, it's who you know. Your name enters rooms that you will never step in, and it's not what you know, it's who you know.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received is to leave work at work and home is home. Don't intermingle the two, but give both your 110%.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never feel pressured to do more than you're ready for. It's okay to learn more and stay in a position.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Inflation is one of the biggest challenges. It's hard to hear somebody tell you, I can't afford this, it made my mortgage go up. They have to have insurance on their property because they have a mortgage, and it's just a never-ending cycle.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, responsibility, and character are most important to me. I want you to see me as I am and understand that that's what you're gonna get. I'm amazing, so you're gonna feel amazing in my presence.
