Ten minutes with Lai Ara

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to consistently showing up and staying committed to my purpose. Higher education is not an easy field, but I’m most proud of never giving up on my passion for creating opportunities for engagement and exposure that empower the next generation. Remaining grounded in my purpose and driven by that passion has been the foundation of my journey and continues to inspire my work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to remember that you belong exactly where you are. Take up space, embrace opportunities with confidence, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they are valuable opportunities for learning and growth. Imposter syndrome can be real, especially as a woman and a Black woman, but you don’t have to have everything figured out. Trust your abilities, keep learning, and give yourself the grace to grow.
