Her Story

About LaKeisha

I grew up in Dallas, Texas, as the oldest of five, a role that helped shape me into the driven and determined woman I am today. From an early age, I was a go-getter, someone who knew what she wanted out of life and remained focused on achieving every goal I set for myself. No matter the challenges placed in my path, I faced them with resilience, determination, and an unwavering faith that carried me through even the toughest moments.

My strength and perseverance are deeply rooted in the powerful women who helped raise me: my mother, Jackie, my grandmother, Jerline, and my grandmother, Bobbie. They were the true examples of strength in human form, showing me what it means to endure, to keep going, and to rise above life’s obstacles with grace and courage. They instilled in me the drive, discipline, and faith that continue to guide me today.

Because of them, I learned never to give up, no matter how difficult the journey may seem. Their influence lives on in everything I do, fueling my passion to succeed and my commitment to pushing forward. My story is one of resilience, faith, and legacy, a testament to the power of strong foundations and the impact of women who lead by example.

Ten minutes with LaKeisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my three sons, Jason, Jordan, and Jaylen. Being a single parent placed me in a position where I had to be intentional about every decision I made, because I knew it would directly impact their future. They became my motivation, my reason to push forward even on the hardest days. I was determined not only to provide for them, but to break generational cycles and create a different path; one rooted in opportunity, stability, and purpose.

My journey hasn’t always been easy, but my sons gave me the strength and drive to keep going when things felt uncertain. I wanted to show them, by example, that your circumstances do not define your outcome. I’ve always believed that the sky is the limit, and I’ve worked hard to instill that same mindset in them; that with faith, discipline, and persistence, there is nothing they cannot achieve.

There were times when the path ahead wasn’t clear, when I had to navigate challenges without a roadmap, but I stayed grounded in my faith and trusted God through every step. I learned to embrace the curves, the setbacks, and the unknown, understanding that each moment was part of a greater purpose. Through it all, I remained committed to moving forward, working hard, and staying the course.

Ultimately, my success is not just about personal achievement; it’s about legacy. It’s about showing my sons what resilience looks like, what faith in action looks like, what a rose that grew from the concrete looks like, and what it means to rise above obstacles with determination and integrity. They are, and will always be, the driving force behind everything I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received came from one of my favorite wardens: always remain fair, firm, and consistent. That guidance has stayed with me throughout my career and has shaped the way I lead and make decisions. It taught me the importance of balance, being approachable yet maintaining standards, and ensuring that everyone is treated with fairness and respect.

I was also encouraged to wake up every day with a purpose, to strive to become the best version of myself, both personally and professionally. That mindset has pushed me to stay motivated, set goals, and continuously grow. Another key lesson was to treat others with the same respect you expect in return. Building strong relationships and fostering a positive environment starts with mutual respect and understanding.

Finally, I’ve learned that great leaders never stop learning. Whether through experience, feedback, or new challenges, there is always an opportunity to improve. Staying open to growth and committed to learning has been essential in my development and success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would give to young women entering the legal field is simple: keep going, and have an amazing day in Purpose, because you’ve got this. The path may not always be smooth, and there will be challenges along the way, but don’t let that discourage you. Believe in yourself and your ability to succeed, even when things feel uncertain.

Understand that growth often comes from those difficult moments. Stay focused, remain resilient, and don’t be afraid to take up space and use your voice. The sky truly is the limit, and anything is possible with determination, confidence, and hard work. Keep pushing forward, trust the process, and know that every step you take is moving you closer to your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in the law office field today can be summed up into a few key areas:

Law firms are facing heavy workloads and burnout, as teams are often understaffed while demands continue to grow. At the same time, hiring and retaining skilled employees remains difficult, putting additional strain on existing staff.

There is also a strong push toward technology and AI, but many firms struggle with implementation, training, and choosing the right tools. Alongside this, client expectations have increased, with a demand for faster communication, transparency, and efficient service.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are faith, resilience, integrity, and perseverance. My faith is my foundation; it keeps me grounded and gives me the strength to keep going, even when the path isn’t clear. I believe in trusting God through every season and staying committed to the journey, no matter the challenges.

Resilience and perseverance are at the core of who I am. Life hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned to push forward, adapt, and never give up. That same mindset carries into my work, where I stay focused on solutions, growth, and getting results no matter the obstacles.

Integrity is also a guiding principle for me. I believe in being fair, firm, and consistent, and in treating others with the same respect I expect in return. Whether in leadership or everyday interactions, I strive to create an environment built on trust, accountability, and mutual respect.

Finally, I value growth and continuous learning. I wake up every day with the intention of becoming a better version of myself, personally and professionally. I believe success is not just about what you achieve, but how you grow, how you treat people along the way, and the example you set for others, especially for my children.
