Her Story
About Lakeisha
I started my entrepreneurial journey about 11 years ago when pregnancy complications forced me to leave my position as a manager at Office Depot. My doctor told me I had to go home because my baby and I were at risk, so I quit my job. While sitting at home, I started watching YouTube and looking for different things I could do, which sparked my interest in entrepreneurship. My first business was called the baby's closet, where I made custom baby stuff like custom onesies and bottles, since it fit right in with me about to have a baby. From there, it branched and grew way beyond that. Now I run a printing company where you can think it, I can print it. I started with personalized apparel, anything you could wear like shirts and caps, but as I grew and connected with other business owners, I branched out into marketing materials and promotional materials to help other smaller business owners grow their own business. That's what made me get into the paper products of business cards, flyers, and postcards. My major accomplishment is growing it from the bottom up, starting with nothing and growing a business to six figures. After getting past the first three years of building blocks, it's been actually consistent now.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received is that it's never gonna be easy. It's always coming, you won't always have to put in the work. And you're not gonna be able to take care of everybody. I had to learn that every person was not my customer. That was definitely one of the hardest things that I had to learn. Your goal is to reach everybody, but ultimately, you have to figure out who's your target market and who's in your target market, and it's okay if you can't reach everybody.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is being able to stay consistent. As a business owner, you got your ups and your downs, you got your peak seasons. One day you can make ten grand, today you can make zero. After I got past the first three years of the building blocks, it's been actually consistent now.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My top three values are God first, service, and hard work.
