About LaKeshia

Dr. LaKeshia Adams is an accomplished education and workforce development leader with a 15-year career dedicated to expanding learning opportunities, supporting underserved populations, and creating pathways to success. She currently serves as the JAG-SC Regional Coordinator with the SC Technical College System, where she works to help students facing significant barriers achieve success through career readiness initiatives, post-secondary pathways, and trauma-informed practices. In this role, she supports the Jobs for America’s Graduates program by collaborating with educators, community partners, and workforce leaders to create meaningful opportunities that empower young people to overcome challenges and reach their goals. Dr. Adams’ professional journey reflects a diverse background spanning K–12 education, adult education, correctional education, instructional technology, and professional development. She began her career teaching mathematics at the middle and high school levels before expanding her impact through roles focused on adult learners and educational innovation. As an Instructional Technology Specialist with the South Carolina Educational Television Commission (SCETV), she provided training and support to educators across multiple levels, helping them integrate technology and effective instructional strategies to enhance learning experiences. Her ability to connect people, systems, and resources has positioned her as a trusted leader in educational transformation. A significant achievement in Dr. Adams’ career was serving as the professional development lead for South Carolina’s participation in the Teaching Skills That Matter initiative, where she helped implement and expand innovative instructional practices across correctional facilities and adult education programs. Her work has focused on creating engaging, equitable, and impactful learning environments that prepare individuals for academic, career, and personal success. Dr. Adams continues to advance education through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to helping others grow and thrive.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Her experiences with mentorship, sharing how veteran employees in various positions provided valuable guidance and historical knowledge that helped set her up for success. She described her efforts to mentor colleagues, particularly supporting shy educators in her TSTM role by encouraging them to share their expertise. When asked about advising a young woman entering the field, Lakeshia expressed enthusiasm and outlined her approach of providing support throughout the process, emphasizing the fulfilling nature of working with this population despite the challenges involved.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Lakeshia shared her professional affiliations, including being a member of the American Correctional Association, Coalition for Adult Basic Education, and South Carolina Correctional Education Association, as well as serving as Region 8 Director for the National Correctional Education Association. She also mentioned her personal involvement with March of Dimes through her sorority Zeta Phi Beta and her own experience with a premature baby.
