Her Interview

Ten minutes with Lakshmi

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strong analytical foundation I developed through my engineering background, as well as the support and guidance I have received from mentors and professional networks throughout my career. Building meaningful relationships and surrounding myself with people who offer diverse perspectives have been invaluable to my growth and success.

I have been fortunate to have mentors who have supported me during critical moments, strengthened my confidence, expanded my capabilities, and opened doors to new opportunities. Their encouragement, combined with my commitment to continuous learning and collaboration, has played a significant role in shaping my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to build a strong network and seek mentorship. No matter where we are in our careers, we all need allies who can provide different perspectives and help us navigate challenges and opportunities.

I have been blessed to have mentors throughout my career who have supported me during times of need, helped boost my confidence, and enabled me to pursue new opportunities. Maintaining a network of trusted peers and mentors has been instrumental in every major career move I have made.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to remain authentic and always be true to themselves. Authenticity creates trust, strengthens relationships, and allows you to lead with confidence and integrity.

I also believe in the importance of building a strong network and continuously learning. Growth follows learning, and becoming too comfortable can hinder development. Finally, I believe women must intentionally prioritize their well-being and mental health. As mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and caregivers, we often place others first, but preserving our energy and investing in ourselves are essential for long-term success and the ability to accomplish extraordinary things.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges in the insurance industry is the limited representation of women in executive leadership positions. While women are well represented at many levels of organizations, their presence significantly declines at the highest levels of leadership.

I view this challenge as an opportunity. Women bring valuable perspectives that can strengthen organizations and drive innovation. As I continue to advance in my career, I hope to help create pathways for other women, support their growth, and bring more women along with me into senior leadership roles.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being authentic and remaining true to myself are values I hold deeply. I believe in showing up as my authentic self in every interaction and bringing transparency, collaboration, and honesty into the way I lead and work with others.

Authenticity helps build trust, especially during times of change. People trust leaders who share their experiences and lead with sincerity. I believe that being genuine not only motivates others but also helps bring teams together and creates an environment where people feel supported and empowered.
