About Lala
Lala LaRue owns and operates a custom and novelty cakes bakery in Houston, Texas, which she started in 2014 after a friend asked her to make a birthday cake. As the sole employee, she manages every aspect of the business, from baking and decorating to creating gourmet treats tailored to customers' special occasions. Self-taught and without formal pastry training, LaRue previously worked in a funeral home for 20 years before dedicating herself full-time to her bakery four and a half years ago. She earned an Associates of Applied Science from Community College and maintains a Certified Food Handler credential. LaRue gives back to her community by sponsoring Little League events, organizing back-to-school drives, and hosting annual customer appreciation events.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If it's something you're passionate about, if it's something you want to do, do it. Don't let anybody tell you you can't, or you shouldn't, or it's not going to be easy, it's not always going to be pretty, there are gonna be some hard days, there are gonna be some days where you feel like quitting. But if it's something you're truly passionate about, don't ever quit, and don't ever let anybody tell you that you can't. There's always a way to figure out how to get what you want done.
