About Lanetta
Lanetta Cason serves as Assistant Auditor II in the City of Columbus, Ohio. She began her career there in November 2021 as a Payroll Benefits Clerk and has advanced through several positions, including roles that involved HR support, before focusing fully on payroll as an assistant auditor. In her current role, she manages payroll processing for the mayor's office departments such as HR and neighborhoods development, as well as fire payroll, and handles additional responsibilities including Colonial vendor changes, all city wage garnishments and bankruptcies, and matters related to the OPRS retirement system. Her team processes payroll for over 10,000 people every other week. Lanetta is a member of the Ohio Local Chapter for payroll and serves on the leadership team of the B-L-A-C-C employee resource group within the city. She attributes her rapid promotions to her dedication to perfecting her work, being an easy learner, and a hard worker who applies knowledge diligently.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I have been promoted in short amounts of time because I wanted to perfect things and do what I felt I could do as my best. Everyone always sees something in me. I study, learn my job, apply the knowledge, I'm an easy learner and a hard worker.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Protect your buzz. Your buzz is how people see you, how people know you. When they hear the name Lynetta, what do they think of? Always check my buzz and be authentic and true to myself.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm transparent. I am comparable. I am knowledgeable. And I'm coachable, and teachable. You want to be knowledgeable to be able to help others, be a team player... be teachable... and transparent.
